At any given moment in time, the number of people who are ready to buy what it is you offer, will count for the smallest number of your prospects.

So out of the entire pool of people interested in what you offer, there will be anywhere from 5 to 10 times MORE prospects, who haven’t made the decision to buy, but are still interested in what you have to offer.

We refer to this group of people as ‘Future Buyers’.

The people who are ready to buy, those are what we refer to as the ‘Now Buyers’.

And here’s where a huge opportunity lies that many businesses overlook.

Practically all the marketing you see or hear, target just the ‘Now Buyers’.

The way to look at your buying timeline is to imagine a line from 1 to 100.

The number 100, represents the stage at which they make the actual purchase.

They have gone from being a prospective customer to being an actual buying customer.

The job of your marketing and advertising is to move a prospective customer or client along this buying timeline so you can keep them heading towards your door and no one else’s.

In order to do this, you need to first understand the 5 stages your prospects goes through during the buying timeline.

Stage 1 is the Awareness Stage, stage 2 is what’s called the Research Stage, stage 3 is the Selection Process stage, then stage 4 is the Decision Making stage and the final stage, stage 5 is the Buying Acquisition stage.

Now, the time it takes for a prospect to go through all these stages will vary widely.

If it’s an impulse purchase, such as buying lunch, the prospect will go through the timeline in a short amount of time, whereas if it’s a larger purchase, such as buying a house, the timeline will be much longer.

Depending on what you offer, will depend on how long your buying timeline will be.

However, no matter what it is you offer, the buying timeline and process is still there and all prospects will still go through these 5 stages.

But as we mentioned earlier, the mistake most businesses make is to have their marketing only attract the prospects who are at the final stage of the buying timeline, the now buyers.
